Change to Procedures for Student IRB Submissions

Starting February 19th, 2024 the IRB Office will no longer allow students (including undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students) to serve as Principal Investigators (PIs) on new initial applications for IRB review. Instead, the Faculty Advisor must be listed as the PI, and the student must be listed as study personnel. Students will still be able to draft IRB applications, but the faculty PI will need to certify the application in the system before the IRB Office can receive the application for review. We encourage students and faculty who support student research to review the information provided on the Student Corner of the IRB website, which now includes updated guidance for student research.

Please note that this change will not affect subsequent submissions (e.g. Modifications, Renewals, etc.) for already approved studies with student PIs, nor will it affect any initial submissions that are received for review prior to the implementation date of February 19th.
