Deadline October 25 - PREPARE grant mentoring program

The PREParation for Appalachian Research Experiences (PREPARE) grant mentoring program application for Spring 2024 is now open. You can find more information and the application here. The deadline to apply is October 25, 2023.

The PREParation for Appalachian Research Experiences (PREPARE) is a customized grant mentoring program for research-interested junior faculty at Appalachian State University. Each nine-person cohort is introduced to a mentor network which assists these individuals with improving grant skills, including applying to external funding sources, promoting compliance with internal and external protocols, and writing more competitive and successful grant submissions.

This program is largely self-paced and designed for the participant who is dedicated to attending the sessions and who will dedicate the writing time to write a grant proposal throughout the program.

The PREPARE program is funded in part by the NSF ADVANCE APPALACHIAN program, which is focused on improving gender equity in STEM fields at Appalachian, and is part of a broad NSF effort to increase the equity in the STEM workforce. The program is open to all who meet the eligibility criteria, but women and faculty from underrepresented populations are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility: Any Appalachian faculty member not yet a PI on a large grant, seeking external grant funding; STEM faculty in the College of Arts & Sciences not yet a PI on a large grant, seeking external grant funding; and assistant professors and associate professors, are encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates are those not yet a PI on a large grant but are seeking external grant funding.

All PREPARE meetings will be on Wednesdays 10:00am - 11:30am, from January 24, 2024 - February 21, 2024, and will be a mix of in-person and virtual formats. An optional writing retreat will be offered on Fridays throughout the program. Mentors and/or other research community members will be on hand for feedback.
