As an Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) member campus, we are eligible to submit one application annually to their Events Sponsorship program. Up to $4,000 can be requested to support events which involve participants from more than one ORAU institution. Typical events might include visits to an ORAU institution by a renowned speaker, conferences or workshops with a focused theme, or a technology transfer/business plan competition. All full-time employees of the university are eligible to submit an application.
Since there is a limited number of applications permitted each year, Appalachian State hosts an internal competition to select our applicant. Those who are interested in submitting an application should complete the application no later than noon on January 22, 2018
Criteria for decisions to award Event Sponsorship grants include:
- Event participation by more than one ORAU institution (however, one ORAU member will submit the proposal and handles the funds).
- Potential impact of the event, including the number of institutions or participants.
- Student participation is considered a positive factor.
- New events have preference over events that are on-going annual events with an established financial model.
- Preference will be given to events in STEM disciplines.
- A representative from ORAU must be invited to the event and will attend, if possible.

COMPETITION CALENDAR
- Internal Competition Deadline: 1/22/18 at 12PM
- Faculty reviews complete: 1/30/2018 at 12PM
- All applicants notified: 2/1/18 at 5PM
- Selected applicant must input material into AGrants and initiate internal approvals: 2/15/18 by 5PM
- ORAU Events Sponsorship Deadline: 3/1/18 by 5PM
