Please join the Office of Research for the second Virtual Research Forum: Democracy and Politics, on Monday, October 26, 2020 from 12pm – 1pm (additional time will be added for questions if necessary). You can register here.

The Office of Research is building research community by hosting a virtual series where faculty can come together and share research on the same topic(s). Each Research forum will focus on a different topic; October’s topic focuses on the scholarship of democracy and politics. We are looking forward to hearing from the following faculty presenters:  

  • Tim Smith (Anthropology) - Abstention and Being: Electoral Politics and Ethnicity in Guatemala

  • Volha Kananovich (Communication) - Exploring the role of news discourse in (de)legitimizing citizen engagement with the state across authoritarian and democratic contexts.

  • Dinesh Paudel (Sustainable Development) - From India-locked to China linked: Infrastructural Competition and the new Cold War in Nepal Himalayas

  • Heather Ondercin (Government and Justice Studies) - Translating Gendered Social Identities into Partisan Identities

  • Jacqui Ignatova (Sustainable Development) - Philanthrocapitalism and the democratic deficit: A case study of the politics of agriculture in Ghana.
