Recruiting International Students

With a college-age population of about 600 million people, India presents a largely untapped opportunity for Appalachian State University’s recruitment of international students, according to Dr. Robert Sanders, former associate dean of Appalachian’s Cratis D. Williams School of Graduate Studies.

In March, Sanders, who is now dean of Rollins College’s Hamilton Holt School in Winter Park, Florida, was one of 14 U.S. higher education administrators who participated in the Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrators Program in India. The insights he gained through the program have helped inform Appalachian’s strategy for attracting international students — including the creation of a new recruitment website tailored for international students interested in U.S. programs of study.
