Research Protections: Who are they?

Research Protections unfortunately does not get you money, but we are the fun and exciting office for compliance and research integrity issues. Specifically, our office administers the regulatory and policy requirements for:

Human subjects (yes, the IRB)

-Animal subjects (IACUC)

-Recombinant DNA (IBC)

-International activities (the complex world of Export Controls)

-Conflicts of Interest (ah, the integrity of it)

-Responsible Conduct of Research (more integrity)

-Intellectual Property (the gateway to tech transfer)

We recognize that we can be seen as the office of Hoops to Jump Through, but keep in mind our mission is to protect a variety of parties –research subjects, researchers, and the University. We don’t operate in a vacuum-most of these areas has an affiliated committee staffed by dedicated faculty, staff and community members. Visit our webpage to find out more; also read the latest announcements from our office. Our team is always happy to assist you with questions or discerning our processes. In addition, we can visit departments or classes as guest speakers on any or all of the above topics.

Keep in mind, we are small but mighty with an emphasis on “small”-we are currently down one full-time staff which has resulted in others shouldering the burden. As a result, our responsiveness is not where we want it to be, but please be patient. You will hear back from us!

Now that you want to learn more about those friendly compliance folks, how do you find us? The best way is the variety of contacts on our webpage. For real, the webpage.
