Overview of September

Research and Creative Activity at APPalachian (RECAPP) Virtual Celebration:  Thank you to all who attended our virtual celebration! This event celebrates all research, scholarship, and creative endeavors - funded and unfunded - of Appalachian Faculty and Staff. Faculty and staff; and we hosted an awards ceremony for the Chancellor's and Provost's Awards for Excellence in Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity. You can view all recorded oral presentations on our YouTube channel and access all digital posters on the event webpage.

URC Grants Overview Webinar: The URC Grants Program competition held twice annually supports faculty by providing up to $5,000 awards. This webinar discusses the proposal review process and provides proposal preparation tips for prospective applicants.

 

Upcoming October Events and Workshops

Tues 10/13 and Wed 10/14 - The Foundations of Inferential Statistics - Inferential statistics build off of descriptive statistics to help researchers make educated guesses about the world. Like any scientific tool, they can be immensely helpful when applied correctly, and they can be equally harmful when misused. This workshop provides an overview of null hypothesis significance testing (NHST), which is the most common category of inferential statistics. If you are used to running statistics that lead to p-values, then you are using NHST. Registerhere.


Mon 10/26- Research Forum #2: Democracy & Politics  12pm - 1pm (additional time will be added for questions if necessary) - The Office of Research is hosting a virtual Research Forum to build a research community where faculty can come together and share research on the same topic(s). The October topic is around democracy and politics and the faculty presenters are Tim Smith, (Anthropology); Volha Kananovich (Communication); Dinesh Paudel (Sustainable Development); Heather Ondercin (Government and Justice Studies); and Jacqui Ignatova (Sustainable Development). Upcoming Deadlines

Thurs 10/1-The Scholarship for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (SDEI) Grantapplications due. Guidelines and eligibility information are embedded in the online application.

Wed 10/14- Summer Stipend for Writing a Grant Program (SWAG). Applications are due Wednesday, October 14 at 12 noon. 

Tues 10/20- URC Grant submissions due. Guidelines and eligibility information are embedded in the online application.
