Our R2 Research Designation—An Important Milestone
In February 2025, App State became one of five institutes of higher education in North Carolina to receive a Research 2 designation for high research activity from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
A significant increase in research expenditures and the number of doctoral degrees awarded by App State helped the university achieve this important benchmark.
